In 2003, the Amelia Island Concours hosted all five of the original Grand Sport Corvettes – three coupes and two roadsters. Â It was a dreary day in Florida for this event, and it was raining so hard that they brought all of the cars into the ballrooms and parking garages of the hotel. Â The Corvettes were one set of highlighted vehicles; the other was the Chaparral cars of Jim Hall (more on those soon!). Â The Grand Sport has one of the prettiest engines in any race car, with the cross-ram Weber carbs sitting proudly atop the Chevy V-8.
